For Us a Child is Born

Here is a Christmas song that I wrote in March of this year. I did a post of this same song (click here), however, I did not like the lyrics for the verses. So I went back to the songwriting board this week and wrote these lyrics instead. Enjoy!

My Soul Waits for You

This song I wrote October 1st, the first time in a while since I have written a song. I don't quite remember how I came to Psalm 130, which is what I based the song off of. Enjoy! Be sure to check out the recording of songs I have written!

The Lord is My Shepherd (revised)

I apologize for the lack of posting, because of business and traveling these few weeks. I wrote this back in February some of you may have remembered this song. I felt like God was telling me to create this piece. These past weeks/months I felt like I need to rewrite some of my songs. I thought of adding a chorus but I didn't put in one because of how I wanted this song to sound. Enjoy!

The Lord is my Shepherd

He gives me peace

Through it I rest and renew my strength

Directs me to the right path

Bringing glory to His name

His rod and staff protect and comfort me

Since it has been a long time I thought I would give you a rough draft of my latest song! I recently read through Zephaniah, and one of its verses {3:14-20} struck me. As soon as I read it I knew it had to be a song :)

Verses:

Sing aloud my children, shout praise

Never will you evil

God has punished those who harm you

He gathers all who stumble and are lost

Give praise and honor to them

For they will be known throughout

One afternoon the word "broken" came to mind. Hungry for a new song I quickly wrote what came to mind I knew The Lord was speaking these words to me and those words became these:

For Us a Child is Born

I know its not Christmas but I have been reading the book of Isaiah, in chapter 9 is where I got the idea for this song. When I read this verse I immediately knew I had to write a song about it. So hear is what I came up with, I hope you enjoy this song! Everything is possible with Christ.

How to Write Songs

There is one secret to writing songs and the most helpful! And that is to pray to God, He is always so faithful and merciful to us and we should thank Him for all the gifts He has given us. I pray each night asking God to give me the words to speak in my songs and that it would be glorifying to Him.

Right now I don't have any song ideas, at the moment. I've been asking God to give me a song that has an unique theme, and different to other songs. If you are a songwriter who needs ideas just pray that God will give you the words to pore out on paper. I speak from experience, even if it takes a long time! The sweet and precious time you have now is to be used wisely. I used my time to read God's word, thank Him, and pray.
Here are my steps:
1. Pray to God: He is the best friend you could ever ask for because He is always listening
2. Spend time in the Word and the world: It is SO helpful to get ideas from stories in the Bible and your friends talking about a certain topic that is important.
3. Be creative and don't be afraid to ask for advice: Let God fill your mind with the information you want to share to others. Also if there is something that is not sounding good to you go to someone you trust ask them what they think of your idea.
4. Love what your doing: If you don't like writing songs then don't do it, your only reason you should write is because you love it and enjoy sharing your great works with others.

Remember that God is always there for you no matter what your going through or how you act. Be kind, encouraging, and forgiving to each other. Comment any good advice for writings that you have encountered through your music journey. I'd love to hear them :)
